Top 10 Fashion Buys
Top 10 fashion buys
With all the style guides appearing thick and fast in the monthly glossies, you’re probably feeling a mixture of excitement and slight bewilderment about what to buy first and which key trends to invest in.
So, to make life easier, we’ve picked out our top 10 new season buys.
Invest in a few of these picks over the next few weeks (most are already in-store) and you’ll have a capsule wardrobe that will see you through the winter months. You’ll also be one stylish step ahead of your fashion rivals. See you at the tills.
1. Something pink
You’ve probably heard that pink is the colour for autumn, from the dusky, paler shades seen at Topshop Unique, to the bubblegum pinks at Simone Rocha.
Topshop Unique is your best route into the trend on the high street and their overcoat is a star buy. You’ll need to be quick as every fashion editor out there is after this one – in stores soon.
2. Oversized
Sweats are big – literally – for AW13 and Whistles already have them in stock. Wear with pencil or midi-skirts and you’ll be the envy of the office.
3. The investment bag
Every season, there’s a bag we all lust after and, more often than not, it’s from Mulberry. They haven’t disappointed with their new Primrose bag, perfect for the season’s ladylike trend.
It’s more structured than the label’s other satchels, with its additional top handle, but still boasts the classic Mulberry postman lock. Once you’ve saved up (this is definitely an investment piece), your only difficulty will be choosing the colour (taupe or aubergine are our favourites).
4. High shine
High shine fabrics are still huge for autumn and H&M has done all the hard work for you with this skirt which combines three key trends in one: Pink, midi-length and high shine. Wear with a plain T-shirt or oversized sweat and you’re already halfway there.
5. Leather
Don’t pack away your leather pieces yet as it’s still a key cloth for winter, feeding into both the vamp and punk trends seen on the catwalks at Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. We love the shape of this olive dress from ASOS and it will work for the office and on into evening.
6. Animal print
Another evergreen classic that’s still going strong thanks, principally, to Burberry who showed clashing giraffe and leopard print to stunning effect at their show. These ankle boots from Boden (yes, really) will be perfect with your skinny jeans for winter.
7. Winter florals
As seen at Erdem and Dolce and Gabbana, florals have gone dark for winter. Vivid blues and rich reds set against black and navy will see your wardrobe bloom in the winter months. LK Bennett has executed this trend perfectly for the high street.
8. Camo print
Camo print goes upmarket next season, in silks and jacquards for evening. Danish label Baum und Pferdgarten has some lovely luxe separates, like this gorgeous top.
9. Masculine tailoring
Stella McCartney showed sexy masculine tailoring for autumn and Topshop Boutique is the ideal place to find the look on the high street. We particularly love this lightweight suit with cropped trousers – perfect with brogues for early autumnal weather.
10. Houndstooth
Houndstooth, a textile pattern synonymous with heritage design and tradition, was big on the catwalks, featuring at both Dior and Mulberry. As always, Zara is bang on trend with this cute dress for the office, already in-store and online.
