Set in a 19th-century building, Casa Ellul is located in Valletta, on the island of Malta. It features unique-style accommodation decorated with original Maltese floor tiles. Originally built as the residence of the influential de Robertis family...

...at the turn of the sixteenth century by Capitano Giacomo de Robertis from Bologna, who was then in the employ of the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta (better known as Knights of Malta).

It later passed through marriage to the noble Testaferrata family and later still to the Marquis De Sain family. In 1967 it was converted to a hotel, with special care taken to preserve the elegance and character of the building's architectural beauty.

Nestled below the Valletta Bastions along the bustling Marsamxett coastline, Cockney’s Restaurant makes you feel like dining at home, as the familiar taste of garlic and perfectly-cooked fish washes over your palette and you relax watching that ferry bob to and fro between Sliema and the capital.
Cockney’s started life 90 years ago as a fishing shop and adjacent cafe’.  This was the perfect location for a fishing shop and ‘Nannu Charles’ stocked tackle, lines and paint.  Having bought what they needed, fishermen and sailors would head to the cafe’ next door to play cards, have a drink and fill their thermoses with tea before heading back out to sea.

After a while, ‘Uncle Joseph’ took over; people would flock here for his Sensation milkshake, homemade ice-cream and lemon granite.  His Sensation recipe, a secret blend of milk, cinnamon, vanilla …….  .  is still done here today and it’s just as popular as it was back then.  Uncle Joseph is 94 now and he still pops in sometimes to check up on us and to see how things are going.

I took over after Uncle Joseph, and with the help of my family we set to work, gradually transforming the shop and café to the restaurant you know today.  There was a lot to be done before this place could function as one.  We started out as a take away and restaurant serving snacks like burgers and pasta; getting to where we are today was quite ambitious and took a while to achieve, but finally we’ve made it.

We kept the name Cockney’s after my grandfather’s nickname; he was called that because he had spent a lot of time in London and had quite an accent! Finally I was able to pay homage to him and to the work that he did when setting everything up in the first place.  It feels fantastic to be carrying on from him.

Nowadays, my oldest son manages the restaurant alongside myself, whereas my other two sons and my son-in-law are the chefs today. They have helped to specialise in fish dishes, of which we’ve become renowned for, namely our octopus pasta, spaghetti vongoli e cozze and fish platters, all of which are home made from start to finish.  Apart from these we have a multiple choice of other dishes, and a variety of antipasto.  Cockney’s also specialises in a selection of pasta and local Maltese food including the traditional ‘aljotta’ and rabbit.  Accompanying these mouth-watering dishes, cockney’s also offer a wide selection of wines to compliment your meal.

We really care about what food makes it onto our plates, and I think that is reflected in the taste of our dishes.  Today Cockney’s is the perfect place where you can enjoy stunning views complimented by quality of food and friendly service.

I'm Jes and the owner of Di Carafa.

Catering and food have been in my family for generations. My Grandpa opened a pastry shop years ago, Camilleri Dolceria, and now it’s run by my uncle. I have very fond memories of working there and it’s probably where my passion for food started.

I decided to open Di Carafa because for me food has three meanings; art, taste and pleasure. During my career in catering many clients suggested I should open my own restaurant and with my passion that’s just what I did!

I opened the restaurant in part of the Palace Carafa designed by Georgio Carafa and it’s in my home-town of Valletta. I’m not sure what the future holds because for now I’m totally focused on producing amazing food and providing an outstanding dining experience for each and every one of my clients.


Offering a quite ambience & serving a twist of Mediterranean, french, Italian & Spanish cuisine. A straightforward menu, offering daily local fresh produce of fresh fish, meat & pasta with a good range of local and foreign wines from all over the world.

E lo fa con un format senza precedenti, recentemente notato da ogni tipo di ambiente per diventare il “miglior format innovativo dell’anno”.
L’idea dei titolari di “Domvs Corleone” Giovanni Corleone e Michele Rubino e la Direzione di Cinzia Coppola nasce dal desiderio di proporre la qualità dei piatti stellati in grandi assaggi che rendano accessibile a tutti un percorso culinario generalmente piuttosto costoso e l’obiettivo sarà quello di aprire più punti nelle città più amate del Mondo. La dedica del progetto da parte di Giovanni e Michele è al Cavaliere Luigi D’Amelio uomo di eccezionale visione internazionale.

Una serie di ricette di altissimo livello riassunte in antipasti, primi, secondi, aperitivi cenati, dolci e tanto altro, sempre diverse anche in base alle stagioni, viene presentata in un formato accattivante e di facile consumo, ideale anche per l’asporto o per uno spuntino durante una passeggiata tra le bellezze di Malta.

Nel locale di Old Street Theatre si potranno consumare le prelibatezze dello Chef comodamente seduti nel salotto che un tempo ospitava uno storico palazzo di Famiglie Siciliane del 1300 al quale è ispirato il nome del progetto stesso.

In un ambiente che mantiene l’antico fascino della nobiltà Siciliana, Maltese e non solo (grazie alla conservazione dei pavimenti d’epoca con cementine originali del 1300) si fondono stili contrastanti tra il moderno e il visionario, come lo sono le ricette proposte. Il filo conduttore del progetto, realizzato dagli scenografi italiani, che hanno deciso di restare anonimi per ragioni sentimentali, richiamata dal balcone a forma tonda e lavorato in ferro battuto due secoli fa’ e con il manichino di Don Vito Corleone che osserva da “burattinaio” i passanti, è già tra le situazioni più fotografate del Mediterraneo e nessuno si spiega il perché.

Nel salotto al centro della città, i cocktail sono firmati da uno dei migliori bartender emergenti della Capitale Maltese, ma solo in serate a tema perché il boom di prenotazioni Li ha resi selettivi e capricciosi in certi giorni dell’anno che vogliamo dedicare agli amici di sempre e ai nuovi rapporti forti che si stanno consolidando. Abbiamo saputo creare e rivisitare nuovi e antichi drink da associare ai migliori assaggi dello Chef.

L’aperitivo, sempre accompagnato da tre ricette soddisferà la vostra voglia di sperimentare e godere della follia di tipici pugliesi giunti da Torremaggiore (FG).

Per la cena invece fatevi accompagnare dagli abbinamenti studiati dai premiati sommelier che hanno selezionato etichette di vino rigorosamente naturali.

Molte esperienze in un solo locale e tanta fantasia da giostrare con protagonisti i clienti che meritano di vivere esperienze intense.
Dalla colazione, all’aperitivo, fino al dopocena una proposta sempre diversa per ogni momento della giornata.

Le grandi porzioni, accostabili in diverse declinazioni, permettono di assaggiare più sapori e soddisfare la fame più esclusiva, a volte sapori contrastanti e abbinati in base al gusto personale sono determinati per una catena di ristoranti che nel 2019 avranno ancora tanto da raccontare. Oggi l’obiettivo è un menù sartoriale, su misura del gusto e del budget del cliente che si trova a vivere un clima di “Tipici Pugliesi” nel Mondo che promuovono con la logica dell’ospitalità e dell’amore per la propria Terra valori d’un tempo, portando il cuore e la storia della nostra gente a Malta per alimentare l’incontro tra i Popoli mentre siamo al Centro di Valletta Capitale della Cultura Europea 2018.

GUNPOST SNACK BAR - Mini War Museum Malta, World War 2 Memorabilia, Open-air Bar & Restaurant Valletta

The Gun Post is one of many that were built all along the coast of Malta. Their main role was to detect any enemy approach and in so doing, to give the alert and even engage the enemy whether it was approaching by sea or by air.

This particular Gun Post, situated at the entrance of Marsamxetto Harbour, was the first to detect the Italian E-Boats approaching Malta on that fateful day of 26th April 1940. Besides giving the alarm signal it also helped in wiping out all the 17 E-Boats which were on a very dangerous mission with explicit instructions to destroy naval ships in the Grand Harbour. The six pounder Bofors played havoc on the enemy that morning.

Today, instead of eyes and searchlight peering into the open sea and into the sky above on the lookout for any enemy approaching to destroy our beautiful island, at the Gun Post one can see happy tourists enjoying a drink and sampling Maltese food.
Thus, from a wartime sentinel, the Gun Post is now serving another useful and peaceful service to Tourists and Locals alike.
Its wartime name has been retained but is now known as "The GunPost - Bar & Restaurant".
The GunPost is an open-air snack bar and restaurant where one can find fresh local fish, pizza, pasta, meat dishes and a large selection of snacks which can all be enjoyed along with magnificent views of the yacht marina towards Manoel Island and Tigne Point all in a relaxing atmosphere.
